Having a garbage disposal is a luxury that most people have in their home or apartment. No longer do you have throw away scraps of food that can stink up your home if you do not take out the trash. But having a garbage disposal is not the end all be all of food waste in your home. With a garbage disposal, Ridge Manor residents need to be extremely careful of what they put down their garbage disposal because there are a lot of things that you might think are safe, but actually can break your garbage disposal, and cause it to malfunction.
Disposing of Meat and Bones
A disposal that can grind up bones sounds as though it would be a little far fetched, but did you know that it is also recommended that you do not put meat in your garbage disposal? Ridge Manor residents should be aware that most garbage disposals cannot handle chopping up meat, but also there is the fact that it can cause problems for the pipes in your home but also those connected to sewers and septic tanks. Meat and bones should not be placed down your disposal but rather they should be put into your trashcan.
Using too Much Soap
This is another problem that sounds like it wouldn’t be that big of a deal but using too much soap with your garbage disposal is never a good idea. Using too much soap can cause a lot of suds and bubbles that can actually lock up your garbage disposal. Ridge Manor residents might want to be aware that if there is too much soap clocking the disposal or the piping to and from, it can cause your system to back up and come out the sink of your garbage disposal. Using soap is not a terrible thing for your system but using too much of it can and will cause problems in the future.
